Bristol-Myers Squibb and Princeton enter research alliance

Princeton University chemistry students will have access to cutting-edge synthetic chemistry research from Bristol-Myers Squibb after the university and the drug company agreed Tuesday to a research partnership.

Bristol-Myers Squibb is a biopharamceutical company with headquarters less than a half-mile from the Princeton campus.

“We are very excited about working with Bristol-Myers Squibb and its scientists as it will empower the faculty in the Department of Chemistry at Princeton who are involved in the collaboration to do out-of-the-box research,” Pablo Debenedetti, dean for Research at Princeton University, said.

The agreement includes the establishment of a research facility called the Center for Molecular Synthesis. In addition to providing a direct link between Princeton lab research and a major player in the pharmaceutical industry, the center will host fellowships that pair researchers with a mentor from Bristol-Myers Squib to offer industrial chemistry perspective to the fellows' research.

“Bristol-Myers Squibb has a long history of engaging in external collaborations and partnerships of all shapes and sizes, always with an eye toward advancing science,” Head of Discovery Chemistry at Bristol-Myers Squibb Percy Carter said. “Similarly, the Department of Chemistry at Princeton University fosters an environment of collegiality, innovation and scientific rigor, and our scientists look forward to contributing to that through this research collaboration.”
