Three students from the University of South Dakota (USD) have advanced to the World Finals of the 2016 ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest next spring in Thailand.
The competition includes some of the most prestigious schools in the world, including Harvard, Stanford and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The competition will take place May 15-20, 2016 at Prince of Songkla University in Phuket.
"This is the best achievement for our students so far,” QuocNam Tran, professor and chair of USD’s computer science department, said. "It shows that our students work hard and have the ability to compete with the elite group of universities around the world."
USD sponsored three teams for the regional contest leading up to the World Championships, with the team of Kurtis Van Gent, Ben Ericsson and Mitchell Peterson solving enough problems to qualify the university.
