Blinn College will offer skills training for 75 Stanpac USA LLC employees after receiving a $96,242 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission.
Stanpac makes packaging for the dairy and beverage industries. Blinn will provide a suite of education on topics tailored to the job, including microbial testing and interpretation, forklift operation, first aid, manufacturing safety, Spanish, supervisory skills, and manufacturing processes.
“We are excited to begin this partnership with Blinn College and are very thankful to the Texas Workforce Commission for making this training possible,” Stanpac co-president Matthew Witt said. “The training provided will ensure that Stanpac’s people are highly skilled, allowing us to be both competitive in the markets we serve and provide the best products available in the industry.”
The grant is part of the Skills Development Fund program, which awarded $21.48 million over 40 grants in 2013 to help boost worker skills and wages for $10,833 workers in Texas. The programs associated with grants led to 3,409 new jobs.
The college said it is eager to broker similar partnerships with other companies, particularly businesses, consortia, and trade unions with more than 100 employees, though smaller companies may also be considered.
