Bridgewater instructor will display his art in local exhibit

Eric Kniss, instructor of art at Bridgewater College, will display his work at the Cleo Driver Miller Art Gallery in Bridgewater, Virginia.

“Recent Works: Sculpture and Drawing" will be on display from Jan. 4 to Feb. 3. An artist’s reception will take place from 5-7 p.m. Feb. 1. Kniss will give a talk there at 5:30 p.m. The talk, reception and exhibition are all free and open to the public.

The exhibition consists of graphite and mixed-media drawing, as well as kaolin installations. For this type of work, Kniss sifts kaolin, a fine white clay, onto the floor to create forms and patterns.

“Recent Works: Sculpture and Drawing” explores connections/distinctions between these two modes of working. 

“For several years, I have thought of these two genres as distinctly different and autonomous,” Kniss said. “More recently, I have begun to sense the possibility that there may be undercurrents of ideas and ways of thinking/making that are more interrelated than I realized.”

Kniss, who has a bachelor of fine arts in ceramics from Bethel College and a master of fine arts in sculpture from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, was a 2015 Fellow at Hambridge Center for Creative Arts and Science in Rabun Gap, Georgia.
