Alison Kluxen, a senior at Albright College, was announced as a finalist for “Triveni u-Design Contest,” an international design competition.
Triveni Ethnics, of Gujarat, India, is a fashion retail company that hosts the competition. The competition inspires students around the world to test their designing and styling skills. Contestants will be judged by multiple methods, including Facebook “likes,” an online poll on the company website and a jury of designers. The winner will be announced on December 18.
Kluxen, who majors in costume and fashion design, is one of 14 finalists who were all challenged to create one traditional ethnic garment and one Indian-fusion garment.
“It’s very empowering to know they saw something in me,” Kluxen, from Ambler, Pennsylvania,
said.
It was Kluxen’s first time making ethnic Indian couture, and she spent extensive time researching traditional Indian apparel. For the traditional look, she went with a sari. She also explored popular runway trends to develop her fusion outfit. In the end, she created what she calls the “Treasured Trends Spring Collection,” a line that features bold prints and vibrant metallics.
Kluxen’s interest in Indian and Asian couture began last year in a class project on Indonesia.
