The city of Pikeville recently recognized University of Pikeville interim president and chancellor and former Kentucky Gov. Paul Patton for his career of leadership and service.

“Patton’s contributions and support for the numerous projects, including the Kentucky Avenue Urban Renewal Project, Renaissance Kentucky Program, and upgrades to the Regional Highways Programs in Pike County directly and positively impacted the city of Pikeville in many ways in assisting our great community to become the regional leader it is today,” Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter said. “These projects, along with many others, dramatically improved the infrastructure, appearance and quality of life for all those who visit, work and live in our wonderful community.”

The award was officially presented by the Pikeville City Commission. Patton received it alongside his wife, Judy, and Pikeville's Main Street Director Minta Trimble.

Patton previously served as a Pike County judge before becoming lieutenant governor of Kentucky from 1991-1995, then governor of Kentucky from 1995-2003. The University of Pikeville's Patton College of Education is named in his honor.
