University of South Dakota holds Winter Commencement

More than 550 graduates received their degrees during the University of South Dakota’s (USD) 40th annual Winter Commencement at the Dakota Dome in Vermillion this month.

Southeast Technical Institute (STI) President and CEO Jeffrey Holcomb provided the keynote address. He received a bachelor’s degree in German and political science from USD in 1982, as well as his master’s in public administration. Holcomb grew up on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in Long Valley, South Dakota, and now oversees operations of STI in Sioux Falls. . 

The University of South Dakota offers 206 undergraduate and 66 graduate programs. Founded in 1862, it is the only public liberal arts university in the state and has an enrollment of approximately 10,000 students. Schools within the university include the College of Arts & Sciences, School of Education, School of Law, Sanford School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, Beacom School of Business, and the College of Fine Arts.
