University of Evansville archaeology professor Jennie Ebeling spent four months in Jordan researching bread culture as part of a fellowship she earned through the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Ebeling, who chairs the school's Department of Archaeology and Art History, specializes in ancient food history from the region and has also previously co-edited a book on household archaeology in Israel. She spent a fall semester the American Center of Oriental Research in Amman, Jordan, researching her thesis project “Bread Culture in Jordan: A Study of Women’s Changing Roles in Bread Production in the 21st Century.”
Ebeling conducted bread-baking research and collected some of her findings in a film, made in collaboration with a local filmmaker.
Ebeling has taught at the school since 2002. She has earned the Dean's Teaching Award and holds several posts outside the school, such as vice president of the American Schools of Oriental Research.
