Two Cameron University students honored for biological research

The Oklahoma Academy of Science recently honored two Cameron University students for research projects they presented at the organization's annual technical meeting.

Jared Stokes, a senior majoring in organismal biology, was given the award for outstanding oral presentation in the zoology category for his project analyzing the effects of habitat variables on home range size of scissor-tailed flycatchers.

Jeein Yoon, a junior majoring in cellular and molecular biology, won the award for outstanding oral presentation in the mathematics, statistics and computer science category for her project looking into traveling waves solutions of infectious diseases model.

“Undergraduate research is a vital part of Cameron’s academic offerings,” Cameron University School of Science and Technology Dean Terry Conley said. "Our students and their faculty mentors commit much time and great effort to academic research. This prestigious recognition by the Oklahoma Academy of Science is well-deserved."

The Oklahoma Academy of Science holds a technical meeting every November to bring together scientists, educators and students to share research findings and the latest techniques pertaining to the scientific field. The all-day event features both oral and poster presentations.

The 104th Annual Technical Meeting took place at Oklahoma City University on Nov. 13, 2015.
