Saint Joseph's College recently installed emergency call boxes in locations throughout campus.

The boxes were directly funded by the college and are not part of the U.S. Department of Justice grant received this past September.

“They are there as a safety precaution," Ernest Watson, associate dean of students for safety and security, said. "We have been talking about getting them for a few years."

The installation of the boxes is a proactive approach to ensure the continued safety of its students. The units are fully functional at all times and allow students to speak directly to the security officer on duty by simply pressing the emergency button on the unit. The boxes light up at night for increased visibility.

Emergency call boxes are at the East Grotto entrance, the East Raleigh parking lot, the South McHale parking lot, the Sparling parking lot, and the South Justin Street.

In addition to these new emergency call boxes, Saint Joseph's College ensures the safety of its campus community with safety escorts, regular patrols, and student security officers. Residence halls are also locked 24 hours a day and can only be entered with a key.
