Students from Lamar University attended the 2016 Student Leadership Conference Saturday at the Setzer Student Center Ballroom.

Students heard from keynote speaker Johnny Quinn, a former professional football player and U.S. Olympic bobsledder. After the speech, students attended workshops on leadership topics addressing the event's theme of "Becoming a Next Generation Leader," such as “Building Your Personal Brand,” “Head, Heart, Hustle,” “Leadership Defined,” “The Art of Effective Leadership,” “It Starts with You,” and “Diversity Leadership: An Exploration of Biases and Stereotypes.”

School officials characterized their vision of next generation leaders as people who catalyze individuals or groups to act, rather than simply manage people's time and tasks.

Associate Vice President and Dean of Students Terry Mena described the event as "a great opportunity for students to learn about themselves, and to explore art and science of leadership,”

The conference was free for all Lamar University students.
