Success in the Field, an e-book published by the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, was recently awarded a blue ribbon by the Southern Region of the American Society for Horticultural Science.

The e-book details the accomplishments of the second phase of the National Strawberry Sustainability Initiative (NSSI) in 2014-15.

"The NSSI is a nationally recognized project that has brought significant acclaim to the Center for Agricultural and Rural Sustainability," Curt Rom, a Division of Agriculture horticulture professor who directed the strawberry initiative, said. "The team and the accomplishments of this project are outstanding. I want to congratulate all of my teammates on this publication and the award recognizing their efforts. This project demonstrates the power of public-private partnerships in moving sustainable agriculture forward for the benefit of both farmers and consumers."

Heather Friedrich, NSSI program manager, and Luke Freeman, NSSI communications specialist, edited the e-book. Judy Howard, a graphic designer for the Division Agriculture, designed the layout.

Since its inception, the NSSI has helped 6,805 strawberry growers nationwide and sponsored 49 field days and 117 on-farm trials that have brought 1,250 acres of strawberries under better management.
