Ashland MFA student wins full-tuition scholarship for Ph.D

A soon-to-be graduate of Ashland University's Master of Fine Arts program is the third poetry student from the school in the last four years to receive scholarships and assistantships in Ph.D. literature programs. 

Adam Gellings, who will graduate from the MFA program in July, received a full-tuition scholarship and teaching assistantship in the Ph.D. program in Literature at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Gellings is starting to publish some of his poetry in journals. He will start in the SUNY program in September.

Marci Vogel was named a Provost's Fellow at the University of Southern California Ph.D. program in Creative Writing and Literature after graduating in 2011 with a MFA in poetry,

A former elementary school teacher, Vogel's first book of poems, At the Border of Wilshire & Nobody, won the 2015 Howling Bird book publication competition. 

Kristin Distel, a 2013 graduate of Ashland's MFA poetry program, won a full tuition scholarship and teaching assistantship in the English Ph.D. program at Ohio University.
