Business students from Boise State will soon be traveling to San Juan, Puerto Rico to take part in the Global Scholars Program.

During their time in San Juan, the students will be working alongside the director of the international business program at Boise State, Mark Buchanan, as well as two Idaho Bean Commission members. The group also will be taking part in business meetings and on-site visitations concerning the product, Idaho Blue Tag seed beans.

Buchanan believes that this experience will help students understand what they have been learning.

"Puzzle pieces fit together, and the lights go on as their academic knowledge comes to life," he said.

The project began last year and continues with this trip, as students work with the Idaho Bean Commission to perform market analysis, build trade relations and explore exportation possibilities.

The students also will study topics related to bean disease, international trade regulations and breeding, as well as studying the culture and economy within the country.

Upon their return to Boise State, the students will host a presentation and share their experiences during the Idaho Undergraduate Research Conference, as well as with the Idaho Bean Commission.

This trip also has the potential for future relations between Puerto Rico and students at Boise State.
