University of New Orleans music professor Yotam Haber is honored to have had his composition chosen to be performed at the Carnegie Hall in New York City on Apr. 2 by the Kronos Quartet, as a part of the 125 works that will be performed in celebration of the hall's 125th anniversary.
The hall's performance space, Zankel Hall, will be the venue for Haber's piece, "break_break_break," that was commissioned by the Kronos Quartet, Carnegie Hall and 125 Commissions Project.
Haber's experience includes being named a 2005 Guggenheim Fellow, a 2007 Rome Prize winner for composition and the director of the composition program at UNO. He is a teacher of advanced theory and upper-level seminars.
Haber, who holds a doctorate from Cornell University, is an internationally acclaimed composer. He is currently in Berlin, thanks to an ATLAS grant on behalf of the Louisiana Board of Regents and a grant for artists from the German Academic Exchange Service.
"As a teenager, I heard their breathtaking recordings of new music by living composers for the first time and realized that writing music was what I truly wanted to do," Haber said. "Writing for the Kronos Quartet has been among my life's most treasured creative experiences."
