University of Arkansas professor of food science Andy Proctor led a Skype seminar with a series of speaking events for the benefit of Austrian students of natural sciences at the University of Graz and Graz Technical University.

The series of career enhancement seminars were part of the fulfillment of his duties as a Fulbright-Austria NAWI Graz Visiting Professor in Natural Sciences.

Proctor worked with doctoral student Sarah Shinn and prior Bumpers College graduate Utkarsh Shah, who is now a senior scientist at The Hershey Co., to build the series. The joint teaching focus between these institutions is on technical and molecular bioscience, mathematics, natural sciences and engineering, chemistry, environmental science, geosciences and physics.

Shinn and Shah spoke together on "Tips on Finding That First Job: How to Get Interviews for Jobs You Don't Even Apply For." The series was intended to impart soft success skills through the leadership provided by speakers in various stages of careers in the chosen professional fields.

Other projects that were part of the visiting professorship included being part of a multidisciplinary team addressing food science and technology research goals in Europe as well as initiating international research and education programs. Proctor also interacted with students through classroom teaching.
