The State College of Florida will collaborate with Manatee County Emergency Operations in this year's hurricane exercise on May 20.

This event will facilitate the training of volunteers by the Manatee County first responders and will provide students with necessary hours for this capstone projects. It will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. at the Manatee County Public Safety Center.

SCF was asked to participate in the event by the Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Committee of Manatee County.

"[The exercise] provides opportunities to strengthen the Emergency Management Program’s capabilities in preparedness, response and recovery from emergency events," the committee said.

The exercise is meant to help the necessary parties and individuals plan ahead for the potential storms of the upcoming season, and aid in the testing of emergency protocols that different organizations have in place.
