Boise State fared well in the recent Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive Tournament at the University of Kentucky last month, taking fourth place overall and winning individual awards including first place for public debate.

"You have competitors from all of the different speech and debate organizations – some of them dedicated Lincoln-Douglas debate programs, others high performance individual event schools," Manda Hicks, Boise State's director of forensics, said.

Among the winners of awards were Janice Witherspoon, a semifinalist in junior public detabe; Kortni Klements, a quarterfinalist in the junior public debate; and the duo of Ryan Orlando and Jamie Maas, who were the fourth- and fifth-best speakers in their debate's format.

Additionally, Justin Henry won fourth out of 88 competitors for Congressional debate, and Fred Swanstrum won the ninth-place speaker award, finishing as a quarterfinalist.
