Agents from the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will visit the University of South Dakota Saturday to train and test the students’ skills in crime scene investigation.
The event will take place in the Beacom School of Business from 9 a.m. till noon. Students and other attendees will take part in training about investigating crime scenes, including demonstrations of fingerprinting, blacklights and cast-making.
Following the training sessions, there will be a polygraph demonstration and a competition. The competition will take place in Farber House and Dakota Hall and seven teams, comprised of five students each, will have to analyze the presented crime scenes.
In the polygraph portion of the event, eight students will be chosen to experience an examination.
“These opportunities enhance students’ liberal arts education while bringing them into contact with professionals in the field,”
Sandy McKeown, director of the university’s criminal justice program, said.
