Cynthia Baldwin, a veterinary and animal sciences expert, will speak on infectious livestock disease and next-generation vaccines Monday at the Distinguished Faculty Lecture at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Baldwin's lecture, entitled “Responding to Infectious Diseases: Next-Generation Vaccines,” will cover revolutionary ways to combat these diseases, including a new development of disease treatment that would work when ordinary vaccines do not.

Her background in veterinary and animal sciences includes participating in the molecular and cellular biology program at UMass Amherst and teaching for the microbiology department at Ohio State University, Cornell University, and the International Laboratory for Research on Animal Diseases in Nairobi, Kenya.

Baldwin will receive the Chancellor's Medal following her lecture, which begins at 4 p.m.
