Bridgewater College juniors Michelle Alty and Rachel Kreiger recently accepted the John Martin Summer Research Endowment for 2016, which will allow them to pursue research on campus with a stipend and free housing.

The endowment is provided through the Martin Science Research Institute and is named in honor of an important figure in Bridgewater’s chemistry department from 1961-85.

Alty  is studying applied physics. With her portion of the endowment, she will work with Assistant Professor of Physics Jason Ybarra to study the Rosette Nebula, specifically young stars at its center.

Kreiger will spend this summer working to discover proteins accompanying stem cell-based organ regeneration with Associate Professor of Biology Moshe Khurgel.
