The Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) has announced that Barbara Long, associate professor of Health and Human Sciences at Bridgewater College, is one of two recipients of the 2016 Bob and Lynn Caruthers Service Award.

The annual award is presented by CAATE at the National Athletic Trainers’ Association convention.

Those who demonstrate the character and performance traits that the Carutherses did during their careers receive the national award. Significant and distinguished service to professional and specialized accreditations are examples of these traits, as well as demonstrating excellence when directly working with constituent institutions. There is also an emphasis placed on accreditation program delivery.

Long is a graduate of Bridgewater College who earned her master’s from the United States Sports Academy and her Ed.D. from Shenandoah University. She received her certification as an athletic trainer in 1989 and was licensed as an athletic trainer in 2002 by the Virginia Board of Medicine.
