The University of New Orleans' economic impact for the metropolitan area was valued at $470.5 million for the fiscal year of 2014-15.

This analysis conducted by the university’s Division of Business and Economic Research shows spending by the university and its community supported approximately 6,500 secondary jobs and approximately $127.9 million in secondary earnings for the local residents.

The university also generated $12.7 million in tax revenue for state and local governments.

“The University of New Orleans received approximately $28 million in state support during the current fiscal year,” UNO President John Nicklow said. “Based on the results of this economic analysis, for every one dollar that the state of Louisiana spends on UNO, the University generates about another $17. Quite simply, that is a staggering rate of return. This report helps quantify what many already know to be true — UNO is a significant economic driver for New Orleans and greatly enhances the prosperity of the region.”

The report also notes that if it were a private company, UNO would be among the top 10 largest employers in New Orleans.
