The University of New Orleans' standards for preparing teachers has been recognized by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, which will enable the school to continue operations under National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education for seven years.

UNO's education programs at the bachelor’s and master’s levels met standards in all areas that are considered, including skills and professional dispositions, assessment system and unit evaluation, candidate knowledge, faculty qualifications, performance and development alongside other areas.

“This accreditation decision indicates that and its programs meet rigorous standards set forth by the professional education community,” Christopher Koch, president of the accreditation council, said.

The university awards approximately 130 education degrees each year. For accreditation, there is an on-site review of the program’s operation and activity, including the initial and more advanced preparation work in teaching preschool through 12th-grade classes.

The university also offers a degree program in school counseling that is under the accreditation authority of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs. This program was accredited in 2014 through 2024.
