Senate Bill 11 --
allowing handgun license holders to conceal their weapons as they carry them on campus --
will go into effect at the University of Texas at Dallas on Monday.
UT Dallas has established a Campus Carry Working Group as well as the Implementation Task Force. People who follow the law will be allowed to carry their concealed weapons into the main offices, classrooms, and libraries on the campus.
According to this bill, there are certain exclusion zones where students and faculty are not allowed to carry concealed weapons.
The restricted zones are designed to make the campus safer through regulations, rules, and similar provisions. There will be signs noting which buildings and entry points restrict concealed weapons.
The exclusion zones include the Callier Center campus in Dallas and the Center for Brain Health.
“For the past year, UT Dallas has worked to develop and implement a campus carry policy that complies with the law while maintaining the maximum safety and security of students, staff, faculty and guests,” criminology professor Alex Piquero said.
