The board of trustees at Beloit College
convened to hold their fall meeting Oct. 6-8.
Powerhouse and strategic enrollment
management was chief among the topics discussed at the meeting. Also during the
meeting, a new program was proposed by a student group that would focus on
creating an avenue of communication and exchange between students of the college
and trustees.
During the course of the weekend, strategic enrollment
management, which is a planning process intended to aid in the shaping and
monitoring of the student body’s size and composition, was discussed by a number
of committees in their separate meetings. The topic will also be featured in
February during a board retreat.
Along with monitoring the student body,
strategic enrollment management also focuses on the students’ persistence when
it comes to the finishing of their degrees as well as giving an overview of
Beloit’s competitive marketplace, which considers demographics and the academic
quality of students in many areas, including recruiting, access, campus facilities
and revenue.
The board intends to implement the plan this coming spring, which would
put it in place to impact the class of 2022, who would begin at Beloit in fall 2018.
