The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) recently awarded $25,000 in Distinguished New Scientists Awards to four scientists at the university's annual Friends of BrainHealth Scientist Selection Luncheon, which was held at the Dallas Country Club.

Funding will be used by the scientists for research studies that have been independently designed.

“This is a truly unique way to propel brain science and the young researchers who are its future leaders into new territory and toward new discoveries,” Center for BrainHealth Founder and Chief Director Dr. Sandra Chapman said. “We are so grateful to our Friends members. Their efforts and support are making scientific breakthroughs possible and providing the means to elevate scientists early in their careers.”

Friends of BrainHealth has raised approximately $310,000 in 2016 and more than $2 million since it was founded in 2008.

The Linda and Joel Robuck Distinguished New Scientist award was presented to Dr. Kihwan Han, postdoctoral research associate in the lab of Dr. Daniel Krawczyk. He was given the award due to his proposal for the investigation of a method for quantifying brain change in patients who have suffered traumatic brain injury after receiving cognitive training.
