Ashland University’s Ashbrook Center Colloquium will host University of Virginia (UVA) professor of politics Dr. James Ceaser, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, on Nov. 18 for a talk entitled “The 2016 Election: The Best Outcome to the Worst Choice?”

In addition to his position as the Harry F. Byrd Professor of Politics at UVA, Ceasar has held visiting positions at Oxford University, Princeton University, the University of Basel and the University of Bordeaux. He is the co-author of a series on American national elections that has run for nearly 25 years and is the author of several books, including Presidential Selection, Reconstructing Nature and Designing a Polity.

“Opinion surveys show the majority of Americans to be deeply dissatisfied with both of the major candidates,” Ceaser said. “In unprecedented numbers, voters are casting their ballots on the basis of the lesser of two evils. Observers from across the political spectrum have called the 2016 presidential election the worst choice ever. This talk will explore whether American voters, faced with this most unfavorable circumstance, managed to secure the best outcome possible.”

The talk will take place in the Ashbrook Center, on the eighth floor of Ashford’s Library, and begin at 3 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
