Students from the University of Arkansas (U of A) Department of Music put their excellence on display at the 2016 National Association of Teachers of Singing Regional Competition, recently held at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

Christopher Sentry won first place in the Senior Men category, a feat that qualifies him to apply for the 2017 National Association of Teachers national competition, which will take place in Chicago. Beyond his qualification through his first place win, Sentry is one of 14 finalists selected for the national competition this year.

Christopher MacRae and Moon-Sook Park were represented in the competition by three of their students, all of whom took home top prizes.

In the Advanced Older Women category, U of A graduate student Ismaelena Serrano won third place; in the Avocational Men and Women category, prospective U of A student Talina Wook earned second place.

Sophomore Hannah Rodriguez and freshman Charl Young were selected as semifinalists in the Sophomore Women category and Freshman Women in Musical Theatre category, respectively. U of A graduate student Siyu Lou and junior Margaret Stall also took part in the competition.

U of A’s team at the competition was accompanied by collaborator Kristy Mezines, a pianist.
