Berry College professor chosen as new dean of Siena's School of Liberal Arts

A new dean of the Siena College School of Liberal Arts in New York has been chosen. 
Lara Baker Whelan, who has been a part of the Berry College faculty since 1999, will be the new dean with her appointment effective in June, according to a news release. In her new position at Siena College, Whelan will be responsible for all programs that are part of the School of Liberal Arts, in which there are 175 faculty, both full- and part-time, as well as 1,000 students.
Whelan is a tenured Berry College professor for a number of subjects: English, rhetoric and writing. She also is in charge of national and international scholarships as the director of Berry's Honors Program, in which she also coordinates various fellowships.
Throughout her career at Berry, Whelan has taught subjects such as Victorian literature, British romanticism, Irish literature and British modernism, in addition to serving as the chair of her department.
Whelan's college education began at Dartmouth College, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English, and continued at King's College, University of London where she earned her Master of Arts. Whelan completed her Ph.D. at the University of Delaware.
Her book, “Class, Culture and Suburban Anxieties in the Victorian Era,” was published in 2009.
Siena College is a small, private liberal-arts college, enrolling 3,000 and following traditions from Catholic and Franciscan backgrounds. Berry College is located in Mount Berry, Georgia.
