'Grateful' graduate named outstanding alumni

Ashford’s Outstanding Alumni the Month for January credits the university for not only developing his business acumen but his self-esteem as well.

According to the university’s website, Middleton, Class of 2012, stated, “If I could describe my experience with Ashford in one word, it would be grateful.”

After being in sales for a time, he soon realized he wanted more in a career.

“Although I felt I was good at these sales jobs, I had little interest in the field and found the endless cycle extremely frustrating,” said Middleton.

He enrolled in both of Ashford's undergraduate psychology and business administration programs.

His course load and the curriculum were not easy but Middleton said the university’s faculty and staff support as well as the university’s online library, gave him needed confidence.

“When I passed a new class every five weeks,” Middleton stated. “My identity shifted from I can't do this, to I can do this.”

Following his graduation with dual bachelor's degrees, Middleton then pursued his master's in marriage and family therapy at Ashford. Two years into working toward that degree, he was offered a job as one of the university’s enrollment services advisors.

The website article states the position allows him to “pair his love for helping others with his passion for creating opportunities.”

Middleton stated “'The more I grow professionally and personally, the more I value what we do here at Ashford.”

The Ashford University Outstanding Alumni of the Month award recognizes Ashford success stories and graduates who have used their Ashford education as a springboard to “personal and professional achievement,” the article stated.
