Marty Meehan was named president of the University of Massachusetts system on Nov. 12.
Meehan formerly served as President of the University of Massachusetts Lowell from 2007-15. He also served as a Democrat representing Massachusetts’ 5th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from (1993-2007).
“Let’s carry this torch and fight this fight together. It’s a cause worth fighting for,” Meehan said in his inaugural address.
The University of Massachusetts System has five campuses across Massachusetts, including universities in Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell, and a medical school in Worcester. The system was founded in 1964; it has 71,000 students.
