UNO to send 30 students to Model UN Conference

Thirty students from the University of New Orleans (UNO) will compete at the 2016 Model United Nations Conference March 20-25 in New York.

These students, part of UNO’s award-winning Model United Nations Club, learned Nov. 20 of their selection to represent the countries of Australia and New Zealand at the national organization’s annual conference on global issues.

This is the largest group UNO has ever sent to the conference which John Hazlett, the group’s faculty adviser, attributes to UNO’s past success at the event. Additionally, he believes that UNO student awareness of international issues has grown in recent years as they learn about the importance of international dialogue and global problem-solving.

The students selected from UNO come from 10 countries, represent all levels of study from freshmen to post-graduate, and are engaged in 14 different fields of study.

UNO has won multiple awards since it started participating in the Model United Nations conference, including two for outstanding delegation, two for distinguished delegation and six for outstanding position papers.
