A delegation from Delgado Community College in New Orleans recently donated $2,050 to a scholarship fund in memory of Mayci Breaux, a former LSU-Eunice (LSUE) Radiologic Technology student.

Breaux was one of the two people killed at the Grand 16 movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana in July. After the tragedy, the LSUE Foundation established the Mayci Breaux Memorial Scholarship. Breaux had been in her first year of the rad tech program at LSU-Eunice.

Katie May, a St. Thomas More High School graduate, and class members at Delgado had attended a conference for radiologic technology, where they met the LSU-Eunice students. After the shooting, the class at Delgado realized they had met Breaux and decided they wanted to help.

May and Lauren Ory, co-presidents of the radiologic technology class at Delgado, spearheaded fundraising efforts. Students sold $1 raffle tickets for a New Orleans-themed gift basket that included certificates to restaurants, tickets to local venues like the World War II Museum, and New Orleans Saints items.

After raising funds, the group from Delgado visited the LSUE campus to make the presentation.

Madelaine Landry, LSUE Foundation executive director, said $1,000 is the annual scholarship goal for the fund. The money would go to a radiologic technology student at LSUE. This year, $5,000 has been raised.
