Wingo named Mississippi State alumnus of the year

Retired businessman Turner Wingo was named Mississippi State University's (MSU) National Alumnus of the Year Monday.

After graduating in 1967 from MSU with a degree in business administration, Wingo embarked on a lifelong business career. He is most noted for his steering of Sherry's Hallmark and his extensive philanthropic commitments to the university that include scholarships, professorships and facilities. Wingo also sits on the MSU Foundation's board of directors.

Wingo will be honored during a ceremony early in the new year, along with several other alumni including Helena Chemical Co. Vice President of Marketing George Thomas; William M. Cobb & Associates President William Cobb; and Weyerhaeuser Co. Vice President of Real Estate and Southern Timberlands John Enlow.

The school will also acknowledge those who have given exceptional service to the Alumni Association, whose current membership includes approximately 132,000 alumni spread over 95 chapters.
