University of New Orleans completes re-accreditation process

The University of New Orleans recently announced that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission (SACSCOC) reaffirmed the school’s continuing accreditation.

Accreditation occurs on a 10-year cycle, and reviews are conducted at the middle and end of each cycle to ensure universities meet the highest possible academic standards. Peer evaluators conduct on-site and off-site reviews, determining whether the university complies fully with the SACSCOC requirements and standards.

“I am very happy with the reaffirmation of our accreditation by the SACSCOC Board of Trustees,” University President Peter Fos said. “Over the past four years, the campus has developed a culture of assessment and continuous improvement of academic programs and of other areas. This is due to a great deal of work by the entire campus community. I am grateful to all who have worked so hard to achieve reaffirmation.”

The commission believes in the concept of quality enhancement and thus asks each university to develop a quality enhancement plan. Each plan must address a major issue that contributes to institutional improvement that must be a focused, concise plan of action. UNO’s plan revolves around global enhancement.

SACSCOC is the regional accrediting body for 11 southern states and Latin America.
