University president named South Tampa Citizen of the Year

Ronald Vaughn, president of the University of Tampa (UT), will receive the Citizen of the Year Award from the South Tampa Chamber of Commerce during its 90th Anniversary Celebration on Feb. 3.

“Anyone who has witnessed the staggering changes at the UT campus over the last 10 years cannot help but applaud Dr. Vaughn’s ability to get things done,” Bill Yanger, the chamber’s incoming board chairman, said. “The explosive physical growth of the campus, the rising national prominence of its academic and athletic programs and the recent opening of the entrepreneurship center, all are a direct result of Dr. Vaughn’s passion for the university.”

Vaughn, president of the university since January 1995, has led the institute through more than 15 years of prominence. In his time, the university has tripled its enrollment, set enrollment records every year, and expanded its academic programs to include more than 200 areas of study.

The event will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Tampa Airport-Westshore.
