Bridgewater College announces spring arts event schedule

Bridgewater (Virgina) College announced its arts events for the spring semester and looks to entertain and educate with featured speakers, music performances, theater productions and a film festival.

A German film festival will take place March 21-23 with films premiering at 7 p.m. in Cole Hall. "Das Boot, "The Reader" and "Schultze Gets the Blues" will be the three films shown. 

Theatre at Bridgewater College will present “The Ugly One” by Marius von Mayenburg at 8 p.m. on Feb. 25-27 and at 3 p.m. on Feb. 28 in Cole Hall. Scott Cole, who teaches theater at Bridgewater, will direct the production, which contains adult content and language.

Musical performances will include Dutch vocal ensemble Quink, the Saint Louis Brass Quintet, the BC Symphonic Band and the BC Jazz Ensemble. 

There will be many notable public speakers including Erica Chenowith, an internationally recognized authority on political violence who has spent a large portion of her career researching civil resistance. She will present an endowed lecture on March 30. 

Mary Badham, who portrayed Jean Louise "Scout" Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird," will speak on March 16.

Most of these events will be free and open to the public.
