Miami University of Ohio launched its Cincinnati Digital Innovation Center last fall, a program that reaches into the city’s startup business community and increases internships and job opportunities for its students.

Collaborating with Miami’s Armstrong Interactive Media Studies (AIMS) and its Institute for Entrepreneurship, the program allows students to spend a semester working at digitally focused startups while receiving 16 credit hours for it.

“We’re now extending it to be year-round in full-time and part-time (internships) so that we can supply talent that the StartupCincy region needs,” Mark Lacker, the John W. Altman Clinical Professor of Entrepreneurship at Miami, said.

At least 102 Miami students have secured internships with 49 companies in the past year through the Ohio Means Internships and Co-Ops (OMIC) grant given to the university. Of those, 32 have interned with 25 startups in Cincinnati.

Miami’s entrepreneurship program has run a summer internship program since 2010 in the Cincinnati startup community.
