Augustana University music professor Rick Andrews will present a free lecture recital Thursday at the University of South Dakota.

Titled “Exploring the Many Wonders of Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit,” the presentation will consist of an illustrated lecture along with a performance of Ravel’s work.

Andrews, an award-winning teacher and performer whose career has spanned more than three decades, is known for innovative performances. Still active as a solo, chamber and concerto performer, he aims to mix lecture and performance in his acts, providing his listeners with both education and pleasing music.

He has won various honors at major competitions and festivals, including the Greater Southwest Music Festival, the Mountain View Concerto Competition, the Dallas Civic Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, the Tuesday Musical Club Solo Competitions, the Sawhill Piano Competition, and the International Beethoven Sonata Competition.

At Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, he teaches music theory, applied piano, piano literature and piano pedagogy.

The event will take place in Colton Recital Hall of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts on USD’s campus.
