Saint Joseph’s College, a Catholic institution in Indiana, is embarking on a four-part series to attain sustainable development and innovation.

The college is calling the program SEID, which stands for Sustainability, Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Development. The series will run throughout the spring semester to give students a look into what it takes to start innovative and environmentally sustainable businesses.

SEID will bring together students, staff and faculty from a number of Saint Joseph’s organizations, including the Sustainability Studies program, the campus’ Career Center, the GREEN Pumas and ENACTUS. The program will run three seminars and a panel discussion – one for each upcoming month.

Funded by a grant from the Ball Venture Fund, the SEID program will be open to all Saint Joseph’s College students and staff, as well as the public from the community.

The first seminar will be run by Mark Davisson, president and chief technology officer of InfoMotion Sports Technologies Inc., who will focus on how to take an idea from the starting phase to a finished product. Davisson will also look at what it takes to develop a successful start-up business.

Robert Colangelo, founding farmer and CEO of Green Sense Farms, will headline the second seminar will share his expertise in developing new businesses to address environmental needs.

The third and final seminar features Bill Keith, president of SunRise Solar Inc. Keith’s seminar will explore how to keep a business running past the start-up phase.

The college’s final SEID event will be a panel discussion of business and environmental experts who will share their expertise with those in attendance.
