Philadelphia University professor promoted to graduate school dean

Philadelphia University has named Philip Russel the dean of graduate education.

Russel has served as an associate professor of finance at Philadelphia University for the past decade and has been the interim dean of the School of Business Administration (SBA) since July 2015.

“I would like to thank Dr. Russel for his great work as interim academic dean of the School of Business Administration,” Philadelphia University Provost Matt Dane Baker said. “His leadership has been critical in maintaining SBA programs and moving school initiatives forward, and he will be instrumental in our continued commitment to grow increase graduate programs and initiatives in the future."

As dean of graduate education, Russel will be tasked with improving services for graduate students, organizing the academic aspects of graduate student orientations, promoting graduate assistantship assignments and developing new programs. He will also be the chair of the Graduate Council.

Russel's previous roles included being the associate dean of Philadelphia University's Kanbar College of Design, Engineering and Commerce and serving as an assistant professor of finance at the University of New Brunswick. He obtained his Ph.D. in finance from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and an MBA in accounting and finance from Morgan State University.

Russel will continue to serve as a finance professor at Philadelphia University before beginning his new role July 1.
