Boise State to host Family of Woman Film Fest screenings

Boise State has partnered with the ninth annual Family of Woman Film Festival to host films on campus this month.

“Women Thinking Globally and Acting Locally” featuring Christy Turlington Burns will take place in Ketchum. The festival will present three films with speakers at Boise State. The university also is a platinum sponsor of the event.

The films at Boise State will play in the Special Events Center and are free. 

At 6 p.m. on Feb. 23, “The Sound of Torture” will be presented by the film’s subject, Meron Estefanos. 

Annie Kerrick, director of Title IX compliance at Boise State, and film subject Sofie Kerasek will present “The Hunting Ground” at 6 p.m. on Feb. 23. 

“India’s Daughter,” presented by the film’s director, Leslee Udwin, will play at 6 p.m. on Feb. 25.

The bulk of the festival event will take place in Ketchum and Sun Valley. Turlington Burns, a long time model and actress, is the center of the festival’s Filmmaker Retrospective. She directed and produced “No Woman, No Cry,” about maternal health challenges.

“Girls, women and mothers have the natural capacity to be compassionate and caring of others,” Turlington Burns said. “When we harness this natural ability collectively, there is no limit to what is possible.”
