The Community Music School at the University of Arkansas will present its Arkansas Trombone Workshop Feb. 27 in the Faulkner Performing Arts Center.
The all-day event will consist of workshops, master classes, demonstrations, performances and a scholarship competition.
While the event is geared toward anyone who loves the trombone, the solo competition is only open to juniors and seniors in high school who want to be a music major in college.
There will be performances by the Razorbones, as well as guest artists Samuel Schlosser and Brad Edwards. Schlosser is the San Francisco Opera's principle trombonist and is a former member of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. In addition to being a professor of trombone at the University of South Carolina, Edwards performs with Symphony Orchestra Augusta and the South Carolina Philharmonic.
"We're very excited to provide students with the opportunity to learn more about their instrument as well as the opportunity to learn from our wonderful guest artists," Cory Mixdorf, program director and professor of trombone at the University of Arkansas, said.
Mixdorf will also perform during the event. In the past, he has performed with groups including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Richmond Symphony Orchestra and the Evansville Philharmonic.
