Professor M. Kabir Hassan of the University of New Orleans was named the 2016 Academy of Economics and Finance Teaching Fellow.

The academy votes each year to select one fellow whose sustained contributions toward teaching and learning merit recognition. Hassan, the Hibernia Professor of Economics and Finance at UNO, received the honor at the group’s annual meeting in Pensacola, Florida.

Professor Edward Graham of the University of North Carolina-Wilmington and the president of the Academy of Economics and Finance noted Hassan’s contributions to both instruction and scholarship.

Hassan has received 25 teaching awards in his extensive career, which has centered on financial institutions and markets, emerging markets and financial development, international finance, corporate finance, and Islamic finance.

The Academy of Economics and Finance, founded in 1963, sponsors several scholarly journals, works to preserve a professional venue that is mutually supportive, amiable and open, and supports the pursuit of economic knowledge.
