A new student housing project with 453 beds will be added to Blinn College’s Brenham campus at the corner of Saeger Street and Old Mill Creek Road.

After negotiations with Servitas LLC to develop the project, the Blinn Board of Trustees approved the project.

The new student housing will offer occupancy for the Fall 2017 semester. Funding will be provided by the National Campus and Community Development-Blinn College Properties, which is a nonprofit organization developed specifically to undertake this large project.

The Brenham campus houses over 1,300 students already, the most of any community college across the state, but an excess of 400 students were on a waiting list this past fall. Officials say being able to house this many additional students would add approximately $2.5 million annually in tuition, other fees, and state reimbursement.

The housing is to be paid for by public-private partnership. Blinn College has also been involved in a project to build student housing on the new Bryan Campus at 851 North Harvey Mitchell Parkway. The Bryan Campus project is on schedule to break ground in March, with expected completion for the Fall 2017 semester.
