Bridgewater to display works of two Virginia artists

Bridgewater College is hosting a free event in which pieces from two painters will be displayed.

Scheduled to be open from March 14 until April 8, the exhibit will begin with the artists discussing their work on the opening day. Following the presentation, guests will be free to enjoy the artwork that is on display.

The two artists hail from different locations, and entertain differing styles of art. Cleveland Morris, from Staunton, Virginia, works with subjects of observation.

“Once an idea has started to excite or challenge me, I go looking for subject matter, whether in the aisles of a grocery store or in an Italian piazza," Morris said.

Elizabeth Sauder, of Rockbridge County, Virginia, enjoys painting the outdoors and tries to bring a certain familiarity to her pieces. She works with oil paints, and her pieces are made up of a wide range of subjects.

“I paint as a way to explore and become intimate with a place and to better understand the visual and environmental phenomena surrounding it," she said.

The Miller Art Gallery is on the second floor of the Alexander Mack Memorial Library.
