The University of New Orleans' Survey Research Center (SRC) is celebrating its 30th anniversary, having built for itself a reputation nationwide.

"Our goal at the SRC is to continue to provide an ongoing picture of how voters view local government services and the general quality of life," Director Edward Chervenak said. "The research conducted by the center attempts to understand that factors that come into play throughout the state, by better understanding the economy, politics and citizens."

The Quality of Life series was the first of its kind to be introduced to the area of New Orleans, according to Chervenak, and the surveys have been held regularly. This regularity means the research center has been able to gain insight into the overall public opinion of the local government.

Over 1,000 political science students from the university have been interviewed for the center's surveys and about 30 graduates of the political science program have moved on to be assistants in the center, with some accepting full-time positions.
