The Forbes Media chairman and editor-in-chief, along with executive dean of Forbes School of Business, opened the Ashford University 2016 Distinguished Speaker Series this month.

The series is a prestigious event with select students, faculty, media, and dignitaries invited every year. Steve Forbes will speak on U.S. monetary flow and entrepreneurial capitalism. All speeches given during the event were streamed live online for the benefit of all of the public.

Forbes writes editorial columns for “Fact and Comment” for every issue of Forbes Magazine. He has received the illustrious Crystal Owl Award four times and authored a number of books on economics and leadership.

This event also marked the formal introduction of Daugherty as dean of the university's Forbes School of Business, a role that has him overseeing curricular, academic, and co-curricular policies and programs. Previously, Daugherty served as CEO of the Jack Welch Management Institute, CEO of Cognitive Arts, and chairman of Eduventures. He also held several leadership positions at GE Capital and other private equity institutes.

Daugherty said that the topic on which he asked Forbes to speak is enormously relevant to the students of the business school. The Distinguished Speaker Series at Ashford University began in 2014, providing a forum for experts in business to share extensive and varied knowledge with the university community.

Located in San Diego, Calif., Ashford University was founded in 1918.
