Dean emeritus status has been awarded to Russ Schultz, a retired dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication at Lamar University.

The announcement was made at the Texas Music Educators Association conference in San Antonio by Kurt Gilman, chair of the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music.

The emeritus title can be conferred upon retired faculty and administrators who have shown faithful and distinguished service dedication to the university for at least 10 years. Gilman said it was an honor to present the news to someone who more than warranted the distinction.

"I gained so much from his vast experience in music mentoring over the many years that we worked together," said Gilman.

Schultz retired in May after serving at Lamar University for more than 16 years. Prior to that, he served as chair of the music department at Central Washington University in Ellensburg. During his 24-year career as an administrator, Schultz also actively served in the accreditation process of the National Association of Schools of Music.

Alumna Sandra Clark also honored Schultz last year with the establishment of the Dr. Russ A. Schultz Innovation Fund in Fine Arts to support music, theater, dance and visual arts.
